Admission to the project

The knowledge about the model project Housing First for Women has spread well among homeless and homeless women in Berlin. As a rule, they find out about the model project through facilities for homeless people, word-of-mouth propaganda, flyers, the media or even through social media.

In an initial meeting, the project and the further process are explained and discussed. It is also clarified whether the woman corresponds to the target group and can be included in the project. After admission, further counseling sessions follow, in which the client's questions are answered and the necessary documents for apartment applications are compiled together.

As with a normal apartment application procedure, the clients must provide evidence of documents for the landlord (e.g. Schufa information; even if this is negative, most landlords need all the documents relevant to their administrative processes). The contract between the client and the landlord follows.

Housing First for Women is very crowded, but the number of apartments available is limited. The situation on the housing market means that women may have to wait a long time for an apartment. In order to avoid long waiting times, women are accepted into the project when an apartment is available in the foreseeable future. If the capacities at the personnel level in the model project Housing First for Women are exhausted or if no new apartments are available, this can lead to a temporary freeze.
